There’s so much unwanted noise buzzing around in day-to-day life – too many darn distractions!

With constant stream of data at our fingertips and the ability to ask anything and get answers instantly,  it’s easy to find yourself swamped and sidetracked.

We’re one push notification away from a mental breakdown.

So how do you calm the noise and keep yourself from getting overwhelmed? Well, here are a few suggestions…

3 ways to handle information overload

1. get it down on paper

There’s nothing more stressful than having all of your to-dos bubbling up in your head. Time to write them down.

We use Trello…one of the most genius project management tools out there.  Here, you can track your weekly (and daily) to-do lists, focusing on tasks that are most important first.

Plus, it’s cloud-based, so when you make updates to it, your team seems this in real time, as well, making sure communication flow is easy and simple.

try it for yourself!

TIP: always make sure to set goals for your team and yourself that are SMART…that’s Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely.

2. be strict

If you know that logging onto Facebook or Twitter is going to be tempting and could be the difference between accomplishing all of your daily goals to accomplishing zilch,

STOP YOURSELF!

There are ways to temporarily block distracting websites so you can get on with your workload without being lured in.

Try StayFocused (Chrome) or LeechBlock (Firefox).

Don’t be afraid, it’s just temporary…

3. do one thing at a time

Do you find yourself saying things like “I’ll try this”, “I’ll do that”, “then I’ll do this”, without taking meaningful action or actually getting anything done?

Stop kidding yourself.

Rather than trying to do everything at once, just put all your energy into one task at a time and you’re sure to be much more productive.  The days of being an “awesome multi-tasker” are long gone.  Focus on one task as a time and be a drill sergeant with yourself…don’t stop working on that task until it’s done.  It’s hyper-focus time.
