You’re a #girlboss.
We know it. But it’s ok to admit that you don’t know it all, because you don’t have to do it alone.
We all need our very own personal board of advisors.
You probably already have a great one of these for your personal life:
- the friend who can tell you where to find the hottest new spot for brunch
- the colleague who knows all of the latest tricks for how to get your baby in a good sleep routine
- the aunt who gives you amazing cake recipes
But what about your professional life?
Who do you go to advice for when you’ve got a problem with team communication while juggling several weddings? Who’s got the best advice on dealing with an unreliable vendor? What if you have no idea where to start when teaching your interns about creating budgets?
Here are some of the types of people you need in your tribe…

Yoda.
A mentor figure. Someone who’ve been in the same situation as you in the past and whose success you want to emulate. Someone maybe five years ahead of you in their career. Their advice is invaluable.
Lisa Hurley – editor of Special Events Magazine
This is the industry insider who knows what’s HOT right now and what the next big thing is going to be. They know which trade shows you need to hit and where to get expert information. (plus, she’s one of the NICEST persons on the planet…follow her on Twitter at @lisa_hurley)
The Idealist
Someone like Oprah. We all need someone to bounce ideas off of and this is the person who helps you brainstorm and feed you with great energy around all those ideas you’ve been thinking about, that you’re not quite sure what to do with. They boost your confidence and get your creativity flowing.
The Realist
I hate to admit this, but someone like Simon Cowell. Sometimes, we need someone to bring us back down to earth. You need someone who asks the right questions and make you think about what realistic steps you need to take to reach your goal. They probably shouldn’t be as harsh as Simon, though. You want to be challenged, not crying in the corner with you dreams smashed to pieces…
Jennifer Lawrence
Your very best girlfriend in the event industry. This is the person you can relate to, the one who’s in a similar situation to you and can call up in a moment’s notice when things get tough. You need someone you can share your experiences with and trade resources, tips and opportunities with.
(Ok, so maybe Jen with her Oscar and her millions isn’t the best example, but you get what we’re trying to say…We bet she’d be awesome to hang out with.)
The Rising Star
This is someone you can be there for as a mentor. Someone you can help shape and guide based on your experiences. One of the best ways to tell that you understand something is to be able to explain it to someone else. And sometimes, one of the best motivators for pushing through obstacles and hardship is knowing that someone is watching.
These are just some of the types of people you need in your tribe to be a successful business-person. But where do you find them? You could attend networking events or ISES chapter meetings. Twitter is also a great way to find and contact people, especially at conferences (like The Special Event Show next week in Orlando…connect with our CEO, Mary Baird-Wilcock, CSEP at @thesimplifiers!)
But what if you could find all those people that you want and need, all on one single platform? A place where the Yodas and Jennifer Lawrences of the event planning industry were all accessible to you to exchange advice and training?
That’s where The Apprentice Program steps in.
We will be THE platform for building your tribe.
Our training platform will give you the opportunity to tap into a global network of experienced professionals who can help you train your team by simply uploading and sharing their knowledge with videos. Saving you time and stress…helping you focus more time on booking more brides, not trying to sort out what your interns are doing today.
It’s time for The Apprentice Program to evolve into a crowd-sourced training platform.
That’s why we’re about to launch a Kickstarter campaign. Take a sneak preview look at it here. Watch the video to learn more.
We want to give you a fully immersive, interactive and elegantly simple training platform that will transform the way you train your team.
